Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Northvale Police Department to protect the constitutional, civil, and human rights of citizens living in and visiting the Borough of Northvale and The Borough of Rockleigh.  We will strive to enhance the quality of life while working in partnership with the communities we serve.

 

We will develop partnerships with each community to prevent, reduce, or eliminate crime, neighborhood problems, and by providing police services that are fair, professional, and respectful of the dignity of all individuals.

Officers are directed to enforce local ordinances, motor vehicle and criminal laws of the Boroughs of Northvale, Rockleigh and the State of New Jersey in a professional, respectful and ethical manner.

Overnight Parking Requests

Overnight parking on Borough streets is prohibited by ordinance from the hours 2am to 5am. If permission is needed for overnight street parking please call 201-768-5900 and press 5 for the Overnight Parking voicemail. Please provide the information as instructed. Permission is granted on a day to day basis as long term parking is prohibited.

Burglar and Fire Alarms

All Residential and Commercial Burglary/Fire Alarms must be registered with the Police Department. An application can be obtained at the Police Department located at 116 Paris Avenue in Northvale. Each alarm must be renewed on a yearly basis and a permit fee is required prior to the issuance of the permit. For more information contact 201-768-5900.

Neighborhood Watch

If you see any activity that may seem unusual around your neighborhood, Chief Howard Ostrow would like you to call the police immediately. The patrol officers will respond to investigate any incident to ensure the safety of each resident. If you are not certain as to whether or not something is suspicious, call us and we will gladly stop by and take the information.

Phone Solicitation

Chief Ostrow would like advise all residents that the Northvale Police Department or its local union, PBA Local 233, will not solicit donations by telephone. Any solicitation by an organization representing the police is not associated with the Northvale Police Department.

Bicycle Helmet Law Changes

Effective March 1, 2006 the law will change. Young people under the age of 17 will be required to wear approved helmets when cycling, roller skating, inline skating or skateboarding. For more information please visit the web site at www.saferoads.com.
